Wednesday, March 7, 2012: Night Ranger - Don't Tell Me You Love Me

Night Ranger gets a bad rap. And, of course, I'm partly to blame.

Well, not directly, you understand.

See, I've launched a little side project lately called The Saturday Night Guilty Pleasure.

The point of TSNGP is to play some songs that I like, that hopefully other's will like, but that nobody would ever consider cool. Think Ice, Ice, Baby or, my personal favorite Guilty Pleasure, Fever For The Flava by Hot Action Cop. Love that song!

But, it's not cool. Never will be. Ever.

One of the songs that I've played recently was Sister Christian by Night Ranger. Total Guilty Pleasure. Greatest. Crescendo. Ever.

However, the downside, and why Night Ranger gets a bad rap. As the years roll on, that is how most people think of Night Ranger.  Which is a shame because Night Ranger constantly had some of the most solid guitar work throughout the 80's. Criminally underrated. Sure, other bands had lot more flash, that's what the 80's were about. But Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson consistently supplied guitar riffs akin to great prime rib - not fancy, schmancy "Look At Me Doing Way Cool Things" type of cuisine, but world class when done right.

And Night Ranger, at their best, did it right.

Here's proof.
