Saturday, January 8, 2011: Happy Birthday, Elvis Presley!

Happy Birthday, Elvis Presley!

You just can't imagine how much I dig Elvis Presley.

And with a career spanning decades, which accomplishments that will never be equaled or duplicated, with an influence on music, movies and popular culture that is neigh incalculable, where to you start with choosing some appropriate birthday music?

You just take wild stabs in the dark, play songs you like, and hope others will be inspired to get to know just how great the true King Of Rock & Roll was.

Enjoy.

Friday, January 7, 2011: Ruben Blades - Vida

I swear to the heavens, nothing in the world makes your body move like Salsa music.

Listen to this track and try not to tap your feet, drum your fingers or sway your hips.

Viva la Vida.

Blades for President!

Tuesday, January 4, 2011: Florence & The Machine - Dog Days Are Over

I was tempted to use this song for last weeks 2010 review, because it was re-released in April of last year. However, because it originally came from late 2008, I figured that would be cheating a bit, and we don't want to start off the year with any bad karma against us.

But, just like Kylie Minogue, I can't get this out of my head, and because it feels like such a positive message for the new year, let's bring it on, crank it up and run fast.

For your mother, run fast for your father, run for your children all your sisters and brothers.

It's 2011. The Dog Days Are Over.

I hope.

Enjoy.

Monday, January 3, 2011: Madness - One Step Beyond

Here we are, the first post of 2011.

We need a song to set the tone for the year, to give everyone a goal to strive for and a pretipice to jump off from.

We need something that makes our mouths smile and our feet shimmy.

We need some Madness.

Hey you, don't watch that...

Watch this!

Watch CSOTD, all cool, all the time

It'll be the heavy, heavy monster sound

Trust me

Friday, December 31, 20140: Laura Marling - Devil's Spoke

Here we are, the last post for 2010.

I can't think of a better song to end the year with than the first track of Laura Marling's second album, I Speak Because I Can.

It contains the best caution for what's been accomplished this past year, and the best advice for the coming year:

All of this can be broken
All of this can be broken
Hold your devil by his spoke and spin him to the ground

Indeed.

Have a good New Year's celebration, gentle reader, and we'll see you on Monday, January 3rd, as we set CSOTD rocketing into the new year.

I can't wait.

Stay safe, stay classy, y'all.
