Tuesday, November 5, 2024: TWOfer Tuesday - The "John Lennon Understands Me" Edition

It takes a long gone Brit to really express what I'm feeling about today.

I'm sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

I've had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of Tricky Dicky
Is going to Mother Hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope
Oooh oh

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of Tricky Dicky
Is going to Mother Hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
Money for dope
Money for rope

I'm sick to death of seeing things
From tight-lipped, condescending, mama's little chauvinists
All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth, now

I've had enough of watching scenes
With schizophrenic, egocentric, paranoiac, prima-donnas
All I want is the truth, now-now
Just give me some truth

All I want is the truth, now
Just give me some truth, now
All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth
All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth
All I want is the truth

Tonight I'll be glued to the television, but really all I'm doing is watching the wheels go round and round.

Wednesday, April 3, 2024: Father John Misty - Real Love Baby

Released in 2016, there is a timelessness to this song that I'm just infatuated with.

Father John Misty is not, in fact, a minister, real name Joshua Michael Tillman.

When this song was released on SoundCloud, he shared this two-word missive to accompany the song: “why not.”

Why not, indeed.  Because it's magic, that's why.  Because I want to hear this song on 8-track as I drive my VW hippy bus through the Pacific North West at around 1975.

Thursday, September 6, 2012: Dr. John and The All Starr Band - Iko Iko

The All Starr Band being Levon Helm, Ringo Starr, Joe Walsh, Rick Danko, Clarence Clemens and Nils Lofgrin.

I would have loved to hear how the rehearsals went!  I mean, how much prep do these guys need?

Tuesday, April 24, 2012: John Legend - Ordinary People

Here's a track that's re-entered the charts after being performed on BBC's The Voice UK.

And what a magic track it is.  From his Dec 2004 debut release Get Lifted, here's the always soulful and timelessly cool John Legend, definitely not your regular Ordinary Person.

Saturday, April 16, 2011: Elton John - Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters

When I was a kid, I wanted to play the piano so bad. It was all I could think about, or talk about. I have no idea why.

But musicians like Billy Joel and Elton John were always high on my list of musical favourites.

I wanted a piano, and my parents enrolled me in accordion lessons.

No joke. How's that for being born under a bad sign.

But, you know, I threw myself into it, I practiced a lot, and even entered some accordion competitions (can you even imagine!), and took first place.

Eventually, though, for me to continue my squeeze box studies, my parents would have needed to get me a far better instrument, which was well out of their price range.

So, I had to quit that too.

What a drag.

Anyway, I hope my weary stroll down (bad) memory lane doesn't turn you off from todays selection.

Elton himself has said that this is probably his favourite song. I think he's got good taste.

Enjoy, and have a great weekend.
