Thursday, February 20, 2025: LISA - Born Again (feat. Doja Cat & RAYE)

This is WZAZ FM in Chicago, Where Disco Lives Forever!

Or, at least that's what it feels like when I'm listening to "Born Again" by LISA.  That's Disco, man.  Like, proper Studio 54, Deney Terrio on Dance Fever type of Disco.

LISA, born Lalisa Manobal on March 27, 1997, in Thailand, is a member of the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, where she has achieved global recognition.  Which is why, probably, I've never heard of her.  I don't think we have blogged any K-POP at all here on CSOTD.

Rounding out this specific collaboration are Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, on October 21, 1995, in Los Angeles, California) and RAYE, or Rachel Agatha Keen, born on October 24, 1997, in London),

"Born Again", released on February 6th of this year, is a fusion of LISA’s K-pop influence, Doja Cat’s genre-blending style, and RAYE’s soulful pop-R&B sound.  Saying all that though, it does feel completely at home at the aforementioned Studio 54, all those years ago.

Exactly as Peter Allen once sang,

"Don't throw the past away,
You might need it some rainy day,
Dreams can come true again,
When everything old is new again."

Monday, May 16, 2011: Basement Jaxx Feat. Lisa Kekaula - Good Luck

Probably one of the greatest personal liberation anthems this side of I Will Survive.

A new week can be for seeking new adventures, but it can also be for cutting out the deadwood and taking out the trash.

You know what I mean.

Either way, make it a good one

Tuesday, November 23, 2010: Lisa Shaw - Honey

Here's something to get your groove on.

I always lament that nobody writes decent R&B basslines anymore. This song is the exception that proves the rule.

Born in Toronto, Canada, and based out of New York City for the last 12 years, Lisa Shaw has made a name doing deep house, avant-garde hip-hop, trip-hop, acoustic soul and drum & bass.

Today, however, she combines those contemporary influences with some seriously old school soul.

From her second full-length album Free, here's some seriously sweet Honey to pour over your day.

Enjoy.
