CSOTD Bonus Edition: Enigma - Return To Innocence

Where is all the Ace of Base? I hear you ask.  Because, if you were around at all in 1994, you heard Ace of Base. You heard a lot of Ace of Base.  Like, so much.

The thing is, technically, the three singles that charted in 1994, The Sign, All That She Wants, and Don't Turn Around, were all from an album, The Sign, that was actually released in November of 1993.

I had so much material from albums released in 1994, that I decided to actually pull Ace Of Base from the list for that very minor technically.

As well, The Cross of Changes by Enigma was released in December of 1993, so Return To Innocence shouldn't be on this list as well.  However, as I've mentioned in previous posts, diversity of genre, style and audience was on peak form in 1994.  And I can't think of a better group that blends together so many different elements so seamlessly better than Enigma.

1994, for all it's complex building blocks, did have a specific sound, something foundational, a scarlet thread that ran through so much of the different songs and bands.  Unfortunately, the very best single example of that was Zombie, by The Cranberries, which I have already have posted all the way back in 2011.

Return To Innocence by Enigma is a very close 2nd.

And, well, this one is a personal choice.  For me.  I couldn't stand to let this year go by and not share this song.  Buy me a beer and I'll tell you about it.

Wednesday, May 11, 2011: Enigma - The Dream Of The Dolphin

Very few groups bring the chills and goosebumps like Enigma

Yes, I'll admit, Sadness hasn't aged well. Which is ironic, considering the base music for that track is hundreds of years old.

However, most of their remaining catalog is rolling along through the years just fine. Gaining strength with time, even.

Like this song.

Stop whatever you are doing, close your eyes, and just get immersed in this overflow of luscious musical sensation unlike anything being produced today.
