I like rap. There, I said it.
Like so many of my generation, I'm sure it was Rapper's Delight that
opened the door for us isolated suburban kids to get introduced to rap
as a musical genre. Or The Message.
I'm certainly not well versed (pun intended), I'm no aficionado. But I know what I like.
I always try to include more rap and hip-hop, but because, again, I'm not even close to being an expert, my "cool" meter is a lot more unreliable that with, say, classic rock, or even jazz.
Meaning, I'm hesitant to post stuff that I proclaim to be cool, when a specific fanbase would obviously never consider that particular selection as "cool". But, then again, if I try to pander to everyone's taste, that's just a straight, flat, desert highway to failure.
So, I find myself just posting what I like, and hoping others come along for the ride.
Today's artist is my current rap obsession. Tsutomu "Tom" Shimura (born September 2, 1972), better known by his stage name Lyrics Born (formerly Asia Born), is a Japanese-American rapper, singer, and producer. Thanks, Wikipedia.
What I do know in my heart of hearts, however, is that this delicious blend of rap and seriously old school funk is a straight, flat, desert highway to Funkytown. And that should always be "cool."
