Tuesday, November 26, 2024: TWOfer Tuesday - The "Let's Change The Mood From Sad To Gladness" Edition

To misquote Jim Morrison off of L.A. Woman, let's change the mood from sad to gladness.

I get it, Thanksgiving isn't the most welcomed holiday these days, and there are a lot of valid, important reasons to not participate.  I'll never argue that Thanksgiving is not, in many ways, problematic.

But, for me and my family, this is really the one time of year that we have a reason, whatever the roots for that reason is, but a reason to come back together for a day, or couple of days, to reconnect, eat good food, and get some good laughter and storytelling in.   And that's it, for me and mine, at least.

The VW Bug has a very questionable origin story.  Doesn't mean a whole generation of love mad hippies couldn't make the Bug an important touchstone of their unique, lived experience.

So, here's a couple of light hearted tunes that hopefully will take some of the weight off this weighty holiday.

Monday, September 24, 2012: Jimmy Durante - (If You're) Young at Heart

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If you're young at heart.
For it's hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If you're young at heart.

You can go to extremes with impossible schemes.
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams.
And life gets more exciting with each passing day.
And love is either in your heart, or on it's way.

Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on earth
To be young at heart.
For as rich as you are, it's much better by far
To be young at heart.

And if you should survive to 105,
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive!
And here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart.

Monday, October 24, 2011: Jimmy Cliff - The Harder They Come

For me, Monday songs are all about getting ready for the week, trying to find your center, sharpen your skills, keep your eyes on the prize.

And try to keep your spirit uplifted.

And there is no music on Earth that can uplift a persons spirit better than Reggae.

And there are few artists who can uplift a persons spirit better than Mr Jimmy Cliff.

So, when you are staring down a weeks worth of problems, when they think they are going to get you down this week, just remember

The Harder They Come, The Harder They Fall.

That is all.
