Thursday, August 19, 2010: The Dropkick Murphys - The Dirty Glass

The question isn't, "How much do The Dropkick Murphys sound like The Pogues?" The question, gentle reader, is "Why don't MORE bands sound like The Pogues?"

For those of you new to the debate, Crawdaddy has an outstanding article comparing the two Celtic Punk heavyweights, and how they square up to each other.*

With the delicious Stephanie Dougherty sharing lead vocals, Al Barr and the boys are hiding their pain behind their musical pleasure for today's CSOTD.  From The Dropkick Murphys Website, "The song is about trying to become a man when you are still just a boy. If I knew being an adult would be so hard i wouldn't have been in such a rush to grow up!"

It's obvious I will have to blog about The Pogues in December, since they wrote the The Greatest Christmas Song Ever (probably NSFW, thinking about it).  But until then, Stephanie and Al will more than satiate our thirst to hear Kirsty and Shane.

And, yes, for those who are TRULY into your Celtic Punk, hopefully I'll be getting to Flogging Molly in the next couple of months.

*(I know it's suicide to direct others to a much better blog than your's, but at this stage of the game, that would be pretty much ANYBODY's blog)
