Monday, December 31, 2012: Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill (Live)

It was always going to be Peter Gabriel.

It's how CSOTD was started, and I had no pretensions about finishing it any other way.

This is a recent (2011) live clip of his classic track.  I love this clip for several reasons, most of all it seems like Mr Gabriel is genuinely having a good time.  That's good to see.  Doing what you love for so many years, it's nice to know that you can still look forward to clocking in at the office.

So, there he is.  Grayer, bit of a ponch, but still has that cheeky grin, and bouncing around that stage like some middle-aged Tigger.  Indeed, the wonderful thing about Peter Gabriel, is he's the only one.  Truly an inspiration.

The other thing I love is the little clip of Ode To Joy tossed in there.  That just kills me. Well done to whomever arranged that.

And, with this humble post, we close the door on CSOTD.  As I've said earlier, gentle reader, faithful reader and friend, this has been a wild, wooly and wonderful ride.   And thanks to everyone who has been in contact trying to pressure me into continuing.  I honestly, truly, did not know how that that many people were really paying attention.  Those conversations have been the most humbling, thank you so much for your kind words.

But, as I have said before, I am moving on to different things.  Hopefully, better things.  I would love to continue CSOTD, but if I'm honest, it has really reached a plateau.  I would have needed to invest far more time into this in order to have kicked it to the next level.  Where it truly needed to go.

That said, I cannot thank everyone enough.  I hope everyone reading this has a blessed new year, where all your dreams are made real.

Me? You can keep my things, they've come to take me home.

Friday, January 28, 2011: Peter Frampton - I'll Give You Money (Live)

It's tough these days to really make people understand just how big Frampton Comes Alive was.

You just can't overestimate how impactful this album was, especially to people of a certain age.  This album was frickin' EVERYWHERE in 1976.

It also summarizes and encapsulates the 1970's in so many ways.

Which is both a good and bad thing.

If you want an introduction to the fuzzy, furry sound of 70's guitar, you could do worse that start here.  If you want to review very soft-focused lyrics about love and devotion in true 70's style, this would be high on your list of reading material.

And, as well, if you want a snapshot of everything that punk was about to challenge in a few years after it's release, which is probably the most telling things of all, then go to Styx, The Bee Gees,  and ELO first.  Then, yes, come here.

Which shouldn't take away from the fact that this is probably one of the best live albums ever released, and this track is about as cool as a Friday song gets.

Grab your PBR and the 8-track of Frampton Comes Alive, get into your Camaro, pick up your best girl and  burn rubber for the outskirts of town with this song cranked up.

Then, when you get to Lover's Lane, that parking spot overlooking the city, put on Baby I Love Your Way.

Frampton Comes Alive, indeed.

Monday, August 9, 2010: Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers

The first Cool Song Of The Day.

I began this when my English Relatives (through marriage) had just left after being on holiday here in the States for about three weeks. The house was too quiet and I was quite sad.

So, I started on the Monday and figured I would post one Cool Song every day just to try to get me through until that Friday. About Wednesday it became kind of an obsession. By Friday it made it to the blogosphere, and I'll try to get this to run at least for one year. We'll see.

Enjoy
