Whatever happened to Jet?
Formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2001, Jet were described as a mixture of the Rolling Stones and AC/DC. That's some heavy comparisons, man, for a band just starting out. But after listening to their debut album, 2003's Get Born, especially this top hit "Are You Gonna Be My Girl", it seemed like they had the swagger, and the chops, to just about pull it off.
I know I was rooting for them.
But, instead, it looks like they went the way of the O'neders, rather than The Stones.
OK, that's not completely fair: after their hiatus and breakup in 2012, the band members did go out to work on individual projects and other musical endeavors.
And, in 2016, Jet reunited for a series of shows, including opening for Bruce Springsteen on his Australian tour and playing at various festivals. They continue to perform and record sporadically.
Still, all that energy that burst forth. Maybe it is better to burn out, than to fade away.
