Thursday, February 24, 2011: Emeralds - Candy Shoppe
Emeralds are an ambient electronic magical minimalist synth trance group.
From Cleveland, Ohio.
Which, of course, houses The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
However, Emeralds, more than likely, will never be admitted into there.
In fact, when I think of Cleveland, Ohio, there is very little in my own imagination of that city that I would reference to that has any connection to this group. At all.
Which gives me great amounts of hope. For everything. And everyone.
Enjoy.

Wednesday, February 23, 2011: Janelle Monáe (Ft. Big Boi) - Tightrope
Between September 1992 and September 1993 I lived without television
It was probably one of the greatest years of my life.
I read a ton of books, wrote real letters to people, jogged in the mornings, went out to swap meets and events on the weekend.
I was young and single, so I'm sure there is some rose tint to these retro-glasses I wear, but all in all I would say that, if you live a year without television, you could accomplish some amazing things.
I'm just saying.
This has nothing to do with today's CSOTD, just thoughts I wanted to share
Janelle Monáe rules, btw.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011: TWOfer Tuesday - The Random British 70's Rock Edition
I've been busting my hump trying to connect these two songs together.
Other than the obvious facts that they are both British rock from the 1970's, I was hoping to find some more interesting connection, like they both had the same producer, or that both the bass players lived in the same flat in Stretham, or that the costume mistress for one band was married to a roadie for the other. Something, anything, like that
But, nope, no other connection - other than they are both very cool
Enjoy

Monday, February 21, 2011: Chase & Status - Blind Faith
I've been listening to this song for a couple of weeks now.
I wanted to blog it from the very first time I listened to it, but I just didn't think it fit into the rotation. I had to wait for an opening.
The part of me that wanted to put it up immediately is the scared little kid in me who still, in my forties, still desires to be popular. I felt that if I could post a bleeding edge song once in a while it would prop up my street cred, make people notice that I actually do know what I'm talking about.
It would make me seem cool.
Because, while the songs I post are very cool, I am about a million miles from cool. And have been for all my life.
And it's something I struggle with.
But then, I just chilled, took a breath, and just focused on the main underlying theme of all I post; If it is cool now, I should be cool in a month, a year, a decade.
Cool never goes out of style.
So, after a few weeks of being released, this song has gone from bleeding edge to merely cutting edge.
But that does not stop it from being very, very cool.
Enjoy.

Saturday, February 19, 2011: Mary Chapin Carpenter - Down At The Twist And Shout
Saturday night and the moon is out
I wanna head on over to the Twist and Shout
Find a two-step partner and a Cajun beat
When it lifts me up I'm gonna find my feet
Out in the middle of a big dance floor
When I hear that fiddle wanna beg for more
Gonna dance to a band from a-Lou'sian' tonight
Sounds good to me.
Who's in?
