Wednesday, November 16, 2011: Beyoncé - Irreplaceable
We all have songs that we sing along with even though we shouldn't.
This is mine. If anyone caught me singing along with this song I think I'd jump off a bridge from embarrassment.
That said, it's sort of a miracle it hasn't happened already, as I usually have this on repeat on my Walkman.
So, here it is. Be thankful you can't hear me singing along.
Be very, very thankful.

Tuesday, November 15, 2011: TWOfer Tuesday - The "Roll On Eighteen Wheeler" Edition
Mercy sakes alive.
When I was growing I wanted to be a truck driver. Some kids wanted to be firemen, or astronauts, or race car drivers. Me? Truck driver. I knew I didn't want to work in an office. I wanted a new challenge every day. And I wanted to see the world. Or, at least, America. I figured, if those were my goals, then it'll be either the military or truck driver. And, with driving a truck, there is only slightly less chance of people shooting at you.
Now, of course, I had no idea about the ins and outs of what it actually meant to drive a truck, the hard road of constant struggle of being an owner-operator of your own Big Rig. All I knew, growing up watching shows like Movin' On and movies like White Line Fever, I just knew adventure awaited around every bend. Long hours, skyrocketing fuel prices, outrageous insurance costs, the dead boredom of endless hours of driving soulless freeways - those problems never came into it.
Of course, it didn't pan out. I took a different road, so to speak.
I have managed to see far more of the world than I ever dreamed I would, with a whole lot more left. I guess I still crave that sense of adventure.
But, I know these men and women, the ones who did chose this road. So, here's to you, big rig drivers. Here's to keeping the world on the go, and keeping on the road. Here's to the myth, the mystery and the magic of the open road. Here's to the challenges no one else will know about, and the sights no one else will see.
God bless you, and all eighteen of your wheels.
Keep doin' what they say can't be done.

Monday, November 14, 2011: New Radicals - You Get What You Give
"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Jesus, from the Gospel of Matthew 7:12 (New International Version)
"No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself." Hadith of an-Nawawi 13
"And, in the end, the love you take/ Is equal to the love you make." From The End by The Beatles.
As it's been known for centuries, you only get what you give.
Wake up kids, we've got the dreamers disease

Saturday, November 12, 2011: Stay Golden, Neil Young
Man, what a failure! I really bit off more than I could chew with Color Week.
I should have planned for this a lot more diligently. Every single day there were at least 6-12 more songs I could have went with.
For next Valentines Day I was thinking about "Love Week" - songs with Love in the title. I'm thinking that might have to turn into Love Month.
Seriously. I'm not even joking.
An entire month of Love. Mmmmmmmm.
Anyway.
I'll leave it to the great Neil Young to lead us out into the golden sunset of Color Week.
As always, thank you gentle reader for coming along these journeys, and your regularly scheduled coolness will resume on Monday.
Enjoy.

Friday, November 11, 2011: Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi
Yes, I could have included Yellow Submarine by The Beatles, and should have included Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John...
I was even considering Lemon from U2 (but not Don't Eat That Yellow Snow by Frank Zappa)
But, that Big Yellow Taxi won out. Mostly because I like this song more than any of the other choices - and partly as an attempt to completely erase the memory of the Counting Crows cover of this song.
God in Heaven that was horrid.
Anyway, enjoy, and have a great weekend.

Thursday, November 10, 2011: The "Here's Just Two Songs About Green" Edition
Ok, so maybe Color Week wasn't such a hot idea. I don't think I thought this through nearly enough.
I mean, it probably should have been just Red Week. Or Blue Week.
Or even Green Week.
Do you know how many songs there are with the word Green in the title? Here's a hint.
So, I'm just choosing two very cool songs sung by two sub-zero cool chicks.
Yes, I called them chicks. Deal with it.
And if you want to know why I didn't include the absolute standard It's Not Easy Being Green by Kermit The Frog, there that is as well.
Enjoy.
