Saturday, August 4, 2012: Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen
Obviously, we have skipped many a fine and decent country this week, but it would be a shame if we didn't end Olympics Week with a look at the wonderful host nation, Great Britain!
Best Sports: Athletics have traditionally brought the most medals, but cycling, sailing, swimming and rowing have all emerged as strengths in recent Games.
Star Performers: Sir Steve Redgrave is believed, by many, to be the greatest British Olympian of all time and is one of the favourites to light the flame at the opening ceremony of London 2012. He is one of only four Olympians to have won a gold medal at five consecutive Games, bringing his Olympic medal count to six in total. Decathlete Daley Thompson, who won two consecutive golds in 1980 and 1984 is also one of the country's most legendary athletes. Britain's top medal prospects for 2012 include double Olympic swimming champion Rebecca Adlington, four-time Olympic cycling gold medalist Chris Hoy, double Commonwealth diving champion Tom Daley and world heptathlete champion Jessica Ennis. Medals are also expected in sports such as equestrian and triathlon.
Olympic Medal History: 211 Gold, 257 Silver, 251 Bronze
Olympic Debut: 1896
Total Games Appearances: Britain have entered all 26 Olympic Summer Games.
