I've rarely been more disappointed than when I learned Stillwater, from Cameron Crowe's amazing 2000 film Almost Famous, wasn't a real band.
Which is kind of confusing, because Stillwater was an actual band back in the day.
Interview with Bobby Golden, one of the original founders of the real Stillwater
That said, though, Stillwater is, well, they're no Stillwater. If you know what I mean.
Based on an amalgamation of several prominent 1970s rock bands such as The Allman Brothers, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Eagles, and Led Zeppelin, the movie band Stillwater pitch-perfectly captures that 1970s dirty rock; the powerful guitar riffs, dynamic vocals, and a raw, authentic rock energy of bands like Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers. And no wonder, the music for Stillwater was written by iconic 70s rocker Peter Frampton, as well as Nancy Wilson of Heart.
It kills me that this wasn't a real band. I'd be their tiny dancer any day of the week.
