Written by American folk, country, and bluegrass composer, multi-talented musician, and riverboat captain John Hartford in 1967, Gentle On My Mind is one of those songs that feels like being wrapped in a warm blanket, or being welcomed in by an old friend after days and days of hard traveling.
The song is a bittersweet picture of a man reminiscing about a past relationship while embracing a wandering lifestyle. John Hartford himself was the first to record "Gentle on My Mind."
