Saturday, June 4, 2011: Magnetic Man ft Ms Dynamite - Fire (Maida Vale)

Totally stole this from a friend's Facebook feed.

I swear, I have the coolest friends.

Friday, June 3, 2011: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Whatever Happened to My Rock 'n' Roll

It's always good to end the week with some questions -

What is the meaning of my life?

Why do I do this every day?

What will the future bring?

What did I accomplish this week?

When will my saviour come for me?

Whatever Happened To My Rock & Roll?

It's the weekend - let's shake the cobwebs out, put on our black motorcycle boots and give this old week a right, good kick goodbye

Keep on truckin, everyone

Thursday, June 2, 2011: Peggy Lee - Black Coffee

Sometimes you've just got to shake your head and ask yourself, "Where has all the "cool" in the world gone?"

Thank Heaven we at least have some of it on tape.

I mean, honestly, could you imagine trying to explain the sound, the emotion, the vibe, the "cool" of this song to someone who had never heard it before?

If we ever get visited by aliens, this is one of the top tracks I'll play for them to help them understand what being human is all about.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011: Mungo Jerry - In The Summertime

Yes, I know, officially "summer" won't start for a couple more weeks

But, it's JUNE!

When the weather is high, you can stretch right up an' touch the sky.

Ain't summer grand? And didn't it take forever to get here?

Tuesday, May 31, 2011: Tommy James & The Shondells - Crimson and Clover

There is something to be said for psychedelic music. Take this song, for example.

Here is a trip, most literally. We start start off slow, paced and filled with longing, then we pick up the pace a bit with more instruments, voices and effects - then things really take off.

I mean, this song has a backbone of great rock and roll to it, starting with that descending bassline and moving into a nice little jam, then back to the beginning, then over again.

With tricks such as vocoders and phasers, this song takes you more places that some artists travel for entire albums.

What a very, very cool song, this.

Enjoy.

Monday, May 30, 2011: Wilco - Ashes of American Flags

Someone turned me on to this song, and I think I played it a dozen times in a row before I could let it go and move on to another song.

Beware - here is a song that scoops you up by the collar, shakes you about, drenches you in its tears and whisky and then leaves you along the side of some country road just outside of town.

Also, there is some profanity (the "f" word, specifically) towards the beginning of the song.

If I'm honest, usually stuff like that disqualifies a song from being selected for CSOTD, but there is just to much beauty here to resist.

God in Heaven, this is a beautiful, powerful siren of a song.

Happy Memorial Day.
