1984.
Forty years. The more things change, I guess.
Obviously, it's a product of it's time. Yes, it's all white dudes singing the leads.
Yes, it's opportunistic and fairly condescending.
Yes, it accomplished almost nothing.
But, it certainly marked a time when thinking globally about issues was really coming to the forefront of peoples attitudes towards the news. And, also, how people were beginning to think about how their lifestyle affected others on this planet, and lastly, how a global network of sound and vision was just starting to become a major player in how information was processed. And disseminated.
And, at the end of the day, at least they tried to affect change. What have you done today?
Yoda can pound sand, trying matters. And, here, at least someone started to try to help.
Anyway. Merry Christmas, everyone.
CSOTD will be taking an end of year hiatus, and we should be back on Thursday, January 2nd.
Be safe, be well, take care, and have a great holiday season, everyone!

I thought about this for a bit. I know that originally money from the proceeds of this song went to actually help those in need, but does it still? Like, it would be my hope or wish that every time this song is played on the radio, that the station heads would donate to stop famine, not just here in the US, but everywhere. Thoughts?
According to the Internet, "The Band Aid Charitable Trust continues to exist. It collects sales and publishing revenue related to the song and several updated versions of the song, and distributes funds to help impoverished people living in Africa.
In 2018, the Band Aid Charitable Trust built schools, bought learning materials, and trained teachers so children could receive education in five villages in Sierra Leone that had been devastated by Ebola. It fed 24,000 children in South Sudan. It gave money to the people of the drought-stricken Raya Azebo district of Ethiopia so they could buy food. The Band Aid Charitable Trust built houses for elders in Ethiopia. And it provided access to clean water to four schools in the Ethiopia’s Oromia region."
